I remember each summer our family would take a car trip. My mother would give my sister and I each 25 cents to be used at the neighborhood candy store. We would spend our quarter picking out all of our beloved penny candy, carefully choosing our favorites to accompany us on our trip. We each had a little paper bag filled to the top with buttons, cola bottles, flying saucers, red licorice wheels, and whatever else we could fit in our bag. We would play games in the car as we drove and the looser would have to relinquish a piece of her candy to the winner. We were very protective over our sweet possession. Four years ago when I was planning the rehearsal dinner for my son’s wedding, we had a huge basket filled with all of our old favorites! Everyone was grabbing and enjoying a memory from their past.
