Retro Candy
too.
Those were the days, huh? Everything was so simple. Saturday morning cartoons, summer vacations, cherry cokes and green rivers at the cafe, and the corner candy store.
Mel's drive-in, Route 66, Cruising Friday nights, Elvis and later the Beatles were all very real parts of the whole era. Seems like a lifetime ago, but it was really only yesterday. Enjoy your trip through our store. Have fun and maybe make some new memories with someone who wasn't there.
"People who bought this candy" ...........
Enjoyed it very much!

Old Time Candy Memories
In 1965 my best friend was Anne Monteleone. Her parents owned the neighborhood corner store, complete with a large glass-enclosed penny candy selection. And I literally mean penny candy. But alas, no freebies for us. So every Saturday we would walk up and down the blocks and in the alley ways looking for empty pop bottles. Sometimes we would collect 10 - 15 bottles. Each one was worth a 2˘ deposit. We were rich! Her mom would give us each a little brown sack and let us choose our sweet reward. My most favorite candies were the flying saucers and the "watermelon slices" that were really coconut. I can just imagine the tastes now. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to walk down memory lane!

I grew up in a small town in New Philadelphia Ohio in the late 1950's and early 1960's. We had a local shoe shop called "Ricks" . It had the old wooden floors and smelled liked cigars.
Everyday all the neighborhood kids would get together and find the old glass pop bottles so we could get the nickel for them. If we were lucky we found more than one a piece.
We would then run barefoot down to Ricks and buy our candy for the week...yes the week.
We would walk out of there with a paper bad full of penny candies and the biggest candy bars you have ever seen. My favorite was the Baby Ruth...it would take me all day to finish that candy bar and it only costs me 3 cents to buy.
I remember that huge candy bar everytime I see a Baby Ruth today.
It is one of the best childhood memories I have. I can still smell the cigars and see Rick behind the counter. He never got tired or cranky with all of us in there everyday. It didn't matter how long it took to pick our candy out or how many times we would change our minds before making our final decisions.
I would have loved for my children to have a memory like Ricks Shoe Shop and Candy Store.
I was so excited to come across your site. I will be purchasing candy very soon to help bring back some of those wonderful days gone by.
