Classic Candy-Is it Really a Thing of the Past
When you think of your childhood, what makes you think of the word "classic"? Candy probably isn't the first thing that comes to mind, but when I think back to my childhood
I remember running through the neighborhood quick marts and grabbing a handful of Tootsie Rolls, Lemonheads and Jaw Breakers. Classic candy was a great way for me and my
friends to be rewarded for our daily chores, and boy was it a cheap way for our parents to keep us happy! Whether I was fishing in the little pond at the end of the street or
climbing the tree in my backyard I was sure to have some kind of classic candy in my pocket.
I will never forget the first time I had one of the Lucky Lights classic Candy Cigarettes from the 1950's in my mouth. I was sitting on the front porch and my mom drove up in our classic candy apple red 57 Chevy Bel Air . Her mouth fell wide open in disbelief and before she realized that I was not really smoking, she let me have it! Boy those really were the days. Another classic candy that is still very popular today is
Atomic Fireballs. My friends and I would have contests to see who could keep them in our mouth the longest, and with tears in our eyes we smiled and took the pain that those
classic candy fireballs could dish out. It truly was times like these that stay forever burned in my mind, and near and dear to my heart.
Now, do not think for a second that all of what I am saying does not stand true today. Just because I am calling it "classic" candy does not mean that many kids today are not enjoying these very same brands along with many others. Personally, the classic candy brands are my first choice for my own children. Not only have they stood the test of time, but they also bring up many fond memories that I like to share with my children.
Whether we are enjoying the classic candy Boston Baked Beans or the famous Necco candy wafers, my kids always know that I will have a story to tell. It always starts with, "Back in the good old days", and they always beg for me to tell them more. They want to know when they can try some Swedish Fish or a Sugar Daddy Pop.
So take a stroll down memory lane. Share some of your favorite classic candy with your friends and family. Take a ride in you classic candy apple red convertible, suck on a
Slo Poke Taffy Sucker and make these days the "good old days"! | | |
