The candy we ate as kids was always there. Suckers, lollipops, bubblegum, sour candies, and candy bars. We never knew that someday they would be hard to find sweet treasures. We would head down to the dime store with our best friend and our allowance to procure the sugary pleasures that we had been craving. It didn't matter if it was an assortment of penny candy or the one special treat that would take a large part of our allowance. My buddies and I use to come flying through the door with a greeting to the lady at the checkout stand as we headed to the aisle that was lined with glass jars brimming with every candy imagineable. We would grab a little white bag and get on the floor in front of these jars, sometimes taking half an hour to get the right sweets in the bag.
